Birds & Paisley & Potentials in the Geyser Pool Image of Imagination
I discovered an amazing articulation of wavelengths of light in the Yellowstone geyser water pools at noon. At that time in mid-August in 2011, my camera recorded the noon sun penetrating the deep but vibrant, hot waters of volcanic potentials.....that I dared to manipulate in the photo programs, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom, discovering worlds of wonder.
Primarily, I edited for brightness, contrast and saturation of selected colors....without inserting fake colors. This is an important principle used in scientific exploration, as in the gram negative and gram positive tests in microbiology....except this reveals much greater potentials for atomic to universal discoveries.

The findings were stunning in both colors and patterns, spanning a wide range of possibilities for scientific discovery, here some very funny shapes that seem alive:
Then I discovered shapes and colors that reminded me of quilts and I made different colors of quilts:
Then I found amazing patterns of water currents through the wilderness....that I painted purple:
It's amazing how certain images and patterns can repeat often in the universe, from micro to macro magnitudes....as this next image appears to me to be a school of fish swimming through the sea:
This looks like waterlilies to me, though I would edit the black from this image. Incidently, I did notice black and yellow-brown blotches on the images both edited and not edited....possibly because the oil industry had caused a major spill of oil/gas in the river just north of Yellowstone Park shortly before I captured these images:
Here a bird is definitely hiding and the image of pi hides also...amazing indicators of the potentials of life to emerge:
I'm sure that my imagination's observations seem odd to many. But I know also that photographic editing can reveal secrets not obvious at the time of capture of the image....to make scientific discovery a real possibility with this technique.
More later.
Dig beyond the obvious...& discover hidden mysteries in the editing
As pathologists apply a dye to microbes to classify the critter...so they can warn the patient about the future or not.....photographers can also discover hidden mysteries of nature far beyond the obvious with photo editing skills.
A Linguist's Guide to Meaning: In the boundaries obvious or not
Only when I became a graduate student in library science and environmental science did I learn that meanings of words did not live in tidy, stackable, neat little boxes in my brain.....but those globs of meaning were connected by messy continuums of gray and other colors shaped by my experiences, attitudes, perceptions and on and on....shaped by others too.

NASA images of Volcanoes: Earth Science Radar Imaging Mission Travels to Central and South America
No real reason for including this image and story on this page....except that I think it's beautiful:
